Business valuation specialists
for business owners & advisers

Know what your business is worth, what drives its value and where the opportunities lie.

Strategy360 provides independent, evidence-based business valuation services for business sales, succession, ownership changes, disputes and strategic planning. We also help owners prepare for the CGT changes commencing from 1 July 2027.

When do you need a business valuation?

A business valuation provides an informed assessment of your business's value at a particular point in time. It can support a sale, an ownership transfer, or a business transition, or help you make better decisions about growth, performance improvement, and your future.

You may need a business valuation when you are:

  • Selling or buying a business

  • Planning succession, or transferring ownership to family or employees

  • Changing ownership or transferring shares

  • Resolving a shareholder, partnership or commercial dispute

  • Preparing for retirement or a future exit

  • Reviewing business performance, risks and growth opportunities

  • Planning for future CGT implications with your tax adviser.

Planning for CGT changes from 1 July 2027

CGT reforms commencing from 1 July 2027 will change how certain capital gains are calculated and taxed. Detailed rules for gains made across the commencement date remain subject to draft legislation.

For some business owners, the value of their business at 1 July 2027 may become important if they later sell, transfer or transition it. The key question is how you will establish and support that value when the time comes.

The time to prepare is now

Trying to establish what a business was worth years after the event can be difficult. Financial information changes, circumstances are forgotten and supporting evidence can be lost.

Preparing before 1 July 2027 helps capture your business risks, value drivers and relevant market conditions while the information is current. It also gives you time to understand and address the factors that may influence future value.

Start with a Business Position Assessment

A Business Position Assessment documents:

  • Your current business risks and value drivers

  • Your business performance benchmarked against the industry average and comparable top-performing businesses using evidence and business information available at the time

  • Opportunities to strengthen business value before 1 July 2027

The assessment is a standalone service that provides a documented view of your business position, including the factors that influence its value. It supports business planning and decision-making now, while providing useful evidence of your business position as at 1 July 2027 if a future sale, ownership transition or other event gives rise to a CGT event. The opportunity to understand and improve your position starts now.

What our business valuation process considers

Profit is important, but it is only part of business value.  Our valuation process considers the financial performance of the business, as well as the risks, constraints and value drivers that may influence the value a buyer or investor is prepared to pay.

Risk and value drivers

We examine the non-financial factors that influence value, including industry conditions, growth opportunities, customer concentration, key-person reliance, staff capability and business systems.

Profit and cash flow

We analyse financial performance and normalise unusual, extraordinary or non-commercial items where appropriate. This helps identify the sustainable earnings and cash flow a prospective buyer may reasonably expect from the business.

Industry benchmarking

We compare relevant results with trusted industry data to test the valuation assumptions and identify performance gaps or improvement opportunities.

Valuation evidence and professional judgement

We use a structured, data-backed process and professional judgement to reach an independent and defensible conclusion. The purpose of the valuation determines the appropriate scope, method and reporting requirements.

Value improvement planning

If you want to build value before a sale or transition, Strategy360 can help you act on the findings through benchmarking, business improvement advice and ongoing sounding board support.

Why choose Strategy360?

Business valuation questions

What is a business valuation?

A business valuation is an informed assessment of the value of a business or an ownership interest at a particular point in time. It considers financial performance alongside the risks, opportunities, industry conditions and other factors that influence value.

Why could 1 July 2027 matter to business owners?

CGT reforms commencing from 1 July 2027 may make the value of a business at that date relevant to the calculation of a future capital gain. The detailed treatment depends on the final legislation and the owner's circumstances, so business owners should obtain tax and valuation advice.

How is the value of a business calculated?

The value of a business is determined using a valuation approach that is appropriate to the business, the purpose of the valuation and the available information. Depending on the circumstances, this may involve assessing maintainable earnings or cash flows, underlying assets, comparable market evidence, and the risks associated with the sustainability and future performance of the business.

When should I have my business valued?

You may need a valuation before a sale, purchase, succession, share transfer, ownership dispute or major planning decision. Owners can also use valuations to track value over time and identify areas for improvement. A valuation can be a critical input when monitoring effective execution of growth and performance strategies.

Is a Business Position Assessment a formal valuation?

No. A Business Position Assessment is not a formal valuation or an opinion of value. It is a standalone assessment that documents your business position, including relevant risks, value drivers, benchmarks and supporting information. It provides a documented reference point for your business position as at 1 July 2027 and supports business planning and decision-making now.

Can Strategy360 work with my accountant or adviser?

Yes. We work directly with business owners and alongside accountants, bookkeepers, financial advisers, lawyers and property valuers who need specialist business valuation support.

Does Strategy360 provide business valuations outside Northern NSW?

Yes. Collins Hume provides business valuation services to business owners and advisers across Australia.
